Artist's Comments

Ennerdale, North West Lake District, England.

Day 2: well over 20km, no idea of the height gain - Pillar (892m) - Great Gable (899m) - Haystacks (597m)

My shots from Pillar summit were sadly ruined because of accidental wrong settings, but I got more than my money's worth when climbing Great Gable. We tried to find an interesting route up and found one via White Napes - a nice scramble. The lake is Wastwater. This is in fact one of my favourite shots from the trip. The view was immaculate.

Processed from RAW in CS3, CPL and Dark Grey Grad (GG2) filters used. I should perhaps add that the horizon is tilted because I want it to be like that.

Detailed info for the *Ex-po-zure club AP101:
1. Taken Outdoors (Ennerdale, North West Lake District, England)
2. It was very calm, sunny and hot (February!). There was in fact a temperature inversion.
3. Taken at 12:51pm
4. Equipment used:
Canon EOS 400D with Canon 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, Circular Polariser and Dark Grey Graduated (GG2) filters.
5. Camera Settings:
Manual settings in RAW mode:
Shutter Speed: 1/30 second
F Number: F/16.0
Focal Length: 17 mm
ISO Speed: 100
6. Post processing:
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Contrast, brightness and vibrance were first edited with RAW tool.
The sky, the distant ground and the foreground were edited in three separate layers with graduated layer masks. All layers received separate editing in levels, curves, shadows & highlights, and selective colour. Neat Image noise reduction was also applied. However, the editing was quite minimal, as the original exposure was close to what I wanted. The main things were vibrance, contrast and noise reduction. The editing took about 45min.
